Royal Riviera Pears are the best in the world. There is nothing else like them, and they are the best part of this gift box. The Moose Munch is another great thing that comes from Harry & David. The combination of chocolate, nuts and caramel popcorn make it one of the best snacks ever. The extra-sharp cheddar cheese is also very good, but it tastes more sharp than extra-sharp - it could use more bite. They should keep those three things and then start over rebuilding this box!
The Olive Oil Crackers were extremely hard, salty, and dry. I kept asking,"Where is the olive oil?" The Hickory Smoked Summer Sausage didn't tast hickory smoked, it was just okay, and there really is no excuse for putting out a summer sausage with so much fat in it. I've tried low fat summer sausage, and it tastes much better than regular summer sausage. Companies should really work on making some of these snacks healthier. Harry & David's summer sausage has an excessive amount of fat in it - more than most. I found the Deluxe Mixed Nuts to be dry and a bit oversalted as well as kind of flavorless. Harry & David really should work on their nut processing and try to find a way to make them less dry and more flavorful.

I was the recipient of this wonderful box...two weeks before Christmas this year (2011). Here are some of the problems.. I hope will help you..
1) There is no indication on the outside of the box
that the contents are perishable and that the
box should be opened when received. This might be OK at "normal" times.. but.. at Christmas I usually wait until Christmas to open the gift.
2) When I opened the box .. I had 5 GREEN pears staring at me.. and NO instructions. My first thought was.. what am I supposed to do now?? I went on the Internet.. and leaned the pears should be kept in the
box for them to ripen. Who knew???
Much to my surprise.. a couple days later I opened the box .. and the pears had started to turn yellow.. and become soft. I ate one.. and OMG.. "succulent" doesn't come close to describing the wonderful flavor. I put the other 4 in the refrigerator
to slow their ripening. I love the pears.. but not having any instructions cut down on my apprecition of the box considerably.
3) BE WARNED... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BITE THE
HORS D'OEUVRE CRACKERS -OLIVE OIL. You'll break a tooth/teeth!! They are like cement! So.. don't be embarassed trying to serve them to guests with cheese or other toppings.. They won't be able to bite them!! I'm haven't tried the sausage or cheese yet.. but... glad I learned of the
concrete crackers before I started to serve the sausage and cheese on them.
4) The mixed nuts are like eating dehydrated cardboard!! You end-up with a mouthful of tasteless
pieces of hard bits.
I thought you might like to hear from a person who RECEIVED the box.. instead of from persons who SENT
the box.. and have never experienced it!!
I have reported my experience to a customer representive who said she would report to management. (She said she's sending me some cookies for my trouble.) I thought CONSUMERS would ALSO want to know.

I sent two of these as a gift- one for mothers day and one as a thank-you. I KNEW my mother-in-law would initally think the gift was overpriced, then LOVE IT. The other was sent as a thank-you present. Needless to say this will become a staple order for me - both receipients enjoyed them thouroughly (and I was right my mother-in-law LOVED IT) and it was the PERFECT mix of items.

The worst item we have ever purchased from Harry & David. It arrived on time and was packaged well. We ordered it for Christmas for ourselves and guests we would be serving on Chriatmas day. The crackers were very stale and very hard. We could not bite them for fear of breaking a tooth. The pears , although tasted just okay( not near as juicy as usual), were under sized and had gouge marks in them. Three of the pears were so small they did not even fill up the partitions in the main box. The popcorn mixture was the best thing in the box. We have never complained before, but there have been some problems in the past. I hate to say this but I guess we just won't order any more. I used to really love the pears I was very embarrassed by this addition to our Chriatmas table. Especially the crackers.
